Website Updates - Sep 10 2011, 22:10

So you all know...

parts of the site are not available over the coming weeks due to some upgrades.

The forum will remain accessible but the shoutbox will be intermittent.

I have been redeveloping many parts of the site and updating functionality.  There will be some changes made to permissions on the website and the shoutbox.  More on this when I complete things, be patient if things error or are not available.

Update,

I know that some issues have appeared on the forum that last day or so... I have been working a lot to get this sorted out and I'm hoping to fix these in the coming days.

Also, there has been connectivity issues with the web server at the data center and I have no idea why.  Teamspeak is suffering from frequent disconnects and the forum is unreachable sometimes.  I have been in touch with my support team and they are aware of the issues.

Hopefully everything will be sorted in the coming days.

I haven't finished the updates completely as yet but I decided to launch what is currently done so far.

What's new so far...

I have rewritten the entire BFN site in HTML5, this means that we will only be supporting up to date browsers such as Chrome, Firefox 4+, IE9+ and Safari.

Bad Company 2 Server monitor (on the left side of the site) which gives lives stats of our BC2 servers.  This will be rewritten for BF3 when I can get hold of some rcon code after launch.

The shoutbox has been completely rewritten and includes a backend user management system for admins to moderate shouts.

A brand new gaming list with backend management has been rewritten from the ground up.  This is an online catalogue of PC games that will include game screenshots, videos, game details, minimum spec, user rating etc.  This is still to be launched as it's on the main part of the site which is still to be completed.  This alone has taken about 90 hours of work.

Every piece of JavaScript has been completely rewritten, so far the main script is over 600 lines of code so quite a lot of work.  This controls many functions on the site including menu animations, server monitor retrieval, ajax control for the shouts, ajax results for the games listing and more.  There are more scripts for gallery controls for the games list which is another 200+ lines of code.

Not everything has been browser tested but I will continue with work over the weekend.

If there's any MAJOR issues please let me know via PM and any minor ones via this thread.  I am still to style up some parts of the forum and tidy up some text etc but in general it should work fine.

Thanks!

We have a new background on the site now... hope you guys like that.

To ensure you have the latest version of the scripts and styles, press CTRL+F5 or clear your browser cache.  Some have been experiencing some issues so this should help.

Things to do and fix that I know of...

WYSIWYG editor seems to of stopped working, I know what the issues are... just need time to fix.

Some styling issues at different areas of the forum.

Team application, I've done some work on this and it's looking nice so far.  It's tying in to the games list thing I've been developing so applicants can let us know which games they play from that list.

Games rating needs developed but I already know what to do for that, just need time.

Check double submissions in shoutbox...

Blog and games news is finished... I just need to find some guys wanting to help with it.

I want to develop my own donations script as the one on here is having issues calculating multiple currencies.  I may only accept £'s so you will need to do some conversion yourself.  This might be easier for me and for all to see the true balance of what is required.

Wouldn't it be an idea to put a currency converter next to the donation input area to make it easier and more accessible for people to donate so it won't be as much of a hassle for random people to donate. Just a tought.

That would be nice but requires a plugin to get live conversion rates... I'm not paying for a feed when your lazy ass can use Google!

Maybe provide a link like jopi just did for the random people that think it can be too much effort?
